Every year, Sunrise Middle School held its famous Annual Fair. This time, Rohan was the class representative and he was absolutely sure that his class would win the Best Stall Award. He walked around school acting very pompous, telling everyone that winning was going to be a total cakewalk. His best friend Priya, however, was not so sure.
"You're being too pompous, Rohan," Priya said softly. "Don't rest on your laurels yet. We haven't even set up the stall." She wore a spiffy blue apron and carried a notebook. She always looked spiffy and ready — that was her style. "Walk on eggshells, will you? The judges are already watching."
Their classmate Dev was in charge of buying supplies. But Dev was famously stingy — so stingy that he had bought the cheapest decorations possible. When Rohan saw the thin paper flags and faded streamers, he was completely flabbergasted. "This is it?!" he gasped. He was so flabbergasted he could not even speak for a full minute.
Dev shrugged. "I saved money. What's wrong with that?" Priya gave him a look. "There's a difference between being frugal and being stingy, Dev. Frugal people save wisely. You just bought junk."
