Trick #1: Multiply Any Number by 11 in Seconds ⚡ (Base Method – Super Easy!)
Example: 34 × 11 = ?
Steps (so simple!):
- Write the first digit: 3
- Add the two digits: 3 + 4 = 7
- Write the last digit: 4
Put together → 374 ✅ Try another: 56 × 11 → 5 | 5+6=11 (write 1, carry 1) | 6+1 → 616 ✅
Abacus kids love this because they already imagine numbers on the abacus, and this trick feels exactly like moving beads! 🧮
Real classroom story: One of our 8-year-old students in Dubai used this trick in a school race and finished 20 questions in 40 seconds. His teacher couldn’t believe it! 😍
Trick #2: Multiplication When Numbers are Close to 100 (Above & Below Base)
This is the famous “Nikhalam” sutra – every Abacus child’s favorite!
Example 1: 98 × 97 Step 1: Both are close to 100 → write -2 and -3 98 → -02 97 → -03 Step 2: Cross subtract: 98-3 = 95 or 97-2 = 95 Step 3: Multiply the negatives: (-2)×(-3) = 06 Answer: 9506 ✅
Example 2: 108 × 109 108 → +08 109 → +09 Cross add: 108+9 = 117 Multiply: 8×9 = 72 Answer: 11772 ✅

Trick #3: Squaring Numbers Ending with 5 (In Just 2 Seconds!)
Any number ending with 5 → square in the blink of an eye!
Example: 25² Take 2 × (2+1) = 2×3 = 6 → write 6 Add 25 at the end → 625 ✅
35² → 3×4 = 12 → 1225 85² → 8×9 = 72 → 7225 115² → 11×12 = 132 → 13225
Our little champions in Sydney and California scream “WOW!” when they first learn this. Even parents start using it for shopping bills! 🛒✨
Trick #4: Multiply Any Two-Digit Number by 111 (Digital Root Magic!)
111 is a very friendly number for Abacus kids.
Example: 456 × 111 Just add neighbor digits!
4 | 4+5=9 | 5+6=11 (write 1, carry 1) | 6+1=7 So → 4 9 1 6 → wait, we have carry left? No problem! Final answer: 50,616 ✅
Pattern: First digit × 111 Then add neighbor pairs, carry over if needed.

Trick #5: Instant Subtraction from 1000, 10000, etc. (All from 9, Last from 10)
This trick saves SO MUCH time in Abacus complementary number practice!
999 – 456 Last digit: 10 – 6 = 4 Other digits: 9 – digit So 9-5=4, 9-4=5 → 543 Wait, 999 – 456 should be 543? Yes! ✅
Another: 1000 – 789 = 211 (9-7=2, 9-8=1, 10-9=1)
Our teachers in the UK and New Zealand use this trick every day while correcting speed papers. Children finish 50 subtraction questions in 2 minutes flat! ⏱️
