• What it does: Squares numbers ending in 5 (like 25, 75, 115) in literally 2 seconds.

• The Trick:
  Take the digit(s) before the 5. Multiply it by “one more than itself” (Ekadhikena Purvena). Then, just write 25 at the end.

• Let’s Play:

  • 25² = ?
    Digit before 5 is 2. One more than 2 is 3.
    2 x 3 = 6. Append 25.
    Answer: 625. ✅

  • 75² = ?
    7 x 8 = 56. Append 25.
    Answer: 5625. ✅

  • 115² = ?
    11 x 12 = 132. Append 25.
    Answer: 13225. ✅

**2. Nikhilam Navatashcaramam Dashatah (All from 9, Last from 10) – The Subtraction Superhero 🦸‍♂️

This Sutra (formula) has a long name but a super simple application. It revolutionizes subtraction, especially from bases like 100, 1000, etc.

• What it does: Makes subtraction from 10, 100, 1000, etc., a one-step mental process.

• The Trick: To subtract a number from 100, just subtract each digit from 9 and the last digit from 10.

• Let’s Play:

  • 1000 - 357 = ?
    Apply “All from 9, last from 10” on 357.
    9-3=6, 9-5=4, 10-7=3.
    Answer: 643. ✅ (Check it!).

  • 100 - 68 = ?
    9-6=3, 10-8=2. Answer: 32. ✅

It’s also the foundation for a magical multiplication technique we’ll see later! This builds incredible mental agility.

**3. Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam (Vertically and Crosswise) – The Universal Multiplier ✖️

This is the flagship technique of Vedic Maths. It might sound complex, but its simplest form is for 2-digit multiplication, and it’s far more logical and less messy than the conventional method.

• What it does: Multiplies any two numbers (2-digit, 3-digit, etc.) in a single line.

• The Trick (for 2 digits): Multiply vertically, then crosswise, then vertically again.

• Let’s Play: 12 x 13 = ?

  1. Vertically (Right): 2 x 3 = 6 (Last digit).

  2. Crosswise & Add: (1 x 3) + (2 x 1) = 3 + 2 = 5 (Middle digit).

  3. Vertically (Left): 1 x 1 = 1 (First digit).
     Answer: 156. ✅

**4. Base Multiplication (Using Nikhilam) – Multiply Large Numbers Near 100, 1000 EFFORTLESSLY ⚡

Remember the Nikhilam Sutra? Here’s its superstar application. If numbers are close to a base (like 98 is close to 100, or 998 close to 1000), this method is lightning fast.

• What it does: Multiplies numbers like 96 x 98, 888 x 997 in seconds.

• The Trick: Write deviations from the base (how much less or more). Cross-add/subtract and multiply the deviations.

• Let’s Play: 96 x 98 = ? (Both are close to Base 100).

  1. Deviations: 96 is -4 from 100, 98 is -2 from 100.

  2. Cross Operation: 96 – 2 = 94 OR 98 – 4 = 94. (This is the first part).

  3. Multiply Deviations: (-4) x (-2) = 08 (This is the second part. Always 2 digits if base is 100).
     Answer: 9408. ✅

• What it does: Finds a single-digit representation of any number (its digital root) and uses it to verify operations.

• The Trick: Keep adding digits until you get a single digit. (If you get 9, treat it as 0 for checks).

• Let’s Play: Verify 123 x 45 = 5535.

  1. Digital Root of 123: 1+2+3 = 6.

  2. Digital Root of 45: 4+5 = 9 -> Treat as 0.

  3. Digital Root of LHS (Multiplied): 6 x 0 = 0.

  4. Digital Root of Answer 5535: 5+5+3+5=18 -> 1+8=9 -> 0.
     LHS (0) = RHS (0). Check passed! ✅
