Today I am super excited to share with you the Top 20 Vedic Maths Tricks that literally changed the way my students look at mathematics. These are not boring formulas – these are magical shortcuts straight from ancient Indian mathematics that make calculations lightning fast ⚡ and actually enjoyable!

1. Multiply Any Number by 11 in Seconds ⏱
Rule: Add the two digits and put the sum in the middle. Example: 34 × 11 3 + 4 = 7 → 374 ✅ Example: 78 × 11 7 + 8 = 15 → 858 (carry over 1) → 858 ✅ Parents in UK and Canada love this trick because children finish homework in half the time!
2. Multiply Any Number by 99, 999, 9999 – Super Easy!
Rule: Subtract 1 from the number → write that answer → write the complement to 9. 53 × 99 = 52 | 47 → 5247 ✅ Kids in Australia and Dubai use this daily!
3. Square Any Number Ending with 5 in 2 Seconds
Rule: Take the first digits, multiply by next number, then add 25. 35² → 3 × 4 = 12 → 1225 ✅ 85² → 8 × 9 = 72 → 7225 ✅ My students in USA scream “Wow!” when they see this 😍
4. Multiply Two Numbers Near 100 (The Famous “Nikhilam” Trick)
Example: 93 × 97 Step 1: Difference from 100 → -7 and -3 Step 2: Cross subtract → 93-3 or 97-7 = 90 Step 3: Multiply differences → 7×3 = 21 Answer: 9021 ✅ This trick saves so much time in competitive exams!
5. Instant Addition – Left to Right Method
Normal way: right to left (slow) Vedic way: left to right (like reading!) 4782 + 3569 = (4000+3000) + (700+500) + (80+60) + (2+9) = 83411 So natural and fast!
6. Subtract Any Number from 1000, 10000, 100000 in a Blink
1000 – 456 = 544 (just subtract from 9, last digit from 10) 10000 – 789 = 9211 Children in New Zealand love this for mental maths competitions.
7. Multiply Any 2-Digit Number by 111
Rule: Add neighbouring digits and place in middle with carry. 42 × 111 → 4 | (4+2) | 2 → 4662 ✅ So simple!
8. Check Multiplication Answer in 3 Seconds (Digital Root Method)
Digital root of 45 × 37 = 1665 → 1+6+6+5 = 18 → 9 Digital root of 45 = 9, 37 = 1 → 9 × 1 = 9 Matches! Your answer is correct ✅ No need to redo everything.
9. Square Any Number from 10 to 99 Using “Duplex” Method
Example: 47² Step 1: (4²) = 16 Step 2: 2×4×7 = 56 Step 3: (7²) = 49 Put together with carry: 2209 ✅ Mind-blowing for Class 8–10 students!
10. Divide Any Number by 5 Without Calculator
Just double the number and move decimal one place left. 86 ÷ 5 = 172 → move decimal → 17.2 ✅ Perfect for quick shopping calculations too 😄
11. Find Square Root Using Vedic Method (So Much Easier Than Long Division!)
Example: √7744 Pair from right: 77 | 44 Double 80 = 160, 160 + x = 174 → x = 14 → 88² = 7744 ✅ My online students from London and Toronto learn this in just 15 minutes.
12. Multiply Numbers Just Above or Below 50
Example: 53 × 58 (50+3)(50+8) = 50×50 + 50×(3+8) + 3×8 = 2500 + 550 + 24 = 3074 ✅
13. Instant Percentage Calculation
To find 15% of 240 10% = 24 5% = 12 Total = 36 ✅ No need to write 15/100 × 240 anymore!
14. Convert Kgs to Pounds & Pounds to Kgs Mentally
1 kg ≈ 2.2 lbs Just multiply by 11 and divide by 5 (or use Vedic trick above) 50 kg = 50 × 22 / 10 = 110 lbs ✅ Very useful for families living in USA, UK & Canada.
15. Cube Any Number Ending with 9
Example: 19³ (a=20, b=1) a³ – 3a²b + 3ab² – b³ 8000 – 1800 + 60 – 1 = 6859 ✅ Advanced but super cool!
16. Find Day of the Week for Any Date (Vedic Calendar Trick)

17. Multiply by 25 in One Step
Just multiply by 100 and divide by 4 68 × 25 = 6800 ÷ 4 = 1700 ✅
18. Vertically and Crosswise Multiplication (Urdhva Tiryagbhyam) – The King of All Tricks!
For any 2-digit or 3-digit multiplication. Example: 23 × 31 2×3 = 6 (2×1 + 3×3) = 11 3×1 = 3 Answer with carry: 713 ✅ This one trick replaces the entire multiplication chapter!
19. Instant Division by 9, 99, 999
Just do cumulative addition from left. 1448 ÷ 11 = 131.636… wait, but with Vedic method you get exact answer mentally.
20. The Magic “All from 9 and Last from 10” for Subtraction
Already famous, but still my favourite! 1000 – 767 = 233 (9-7, 9-6, 10-7) ✅
